Llanerch

Beat Description:

Predominantly salmon and sea trout

The pool at the top of this beat has disabled access via a combination locked gate, the number for which can be obtained from the club secretary. There are a number of smaller pools on the beat all of which may hold migratory fish at any time during the main run. The largest of these pools, the Flamingo Pool is about four hundred meters down river from the bridge, and is distinguished by having a footbridge spanning the centre of the pool. Below this bridge, fishing is limited to a shorter distance on the right bank than the left and attention should be paid to the end of beat sign. Both banks from here down are well treed. There are small brown trout to be had but the numbers of fish are low and most seen rising, especially early in the season, are salmon and sea trout parr making themselves ready for their first trip to sea. These fish are small and delicate and should be unhooked without touching them if possible, it is these that will make up the next seasons sea trout and salmon run.

Mostly spinning and bait water but fly is possible although sometimes under difficult casting conditions at times. Wading is generally safe but there are some deep holes, so please recon the water prior to wading, especially if you intend to fish into the dark. The fly needs to “worked” on most stretches.

How to Get There:
